Judging in Denmark, 20 May 2006

It was a privilege to be invited to Denmark to judge The Cairn Terrier Club Open Show on 20 May.
In a period of poor weather I was fortunate to be able to complete judging outdoors without getting wet.
The Exhibitors were a friendly and sporting group making the whole experience a lot of fun.

Generally, with a few exceptions, the exhibits were of high quality.
I found good strong heads with dogs looking like dogs and bitches looking like bitches.
Bites were correct with many examples having nice large teeth.
The outlines were striking, both stationary and on the move with the majority having a good length of neck, level topline and strong rear quarters.
Most moved well with good drive, were well turned out and a credit to their exhibitors.

My BIS was Calehill’s Norman, a dark red brindle dog who closely matched the standard in all aspects, conformation, coat and character
and moved round the ring with enthusiasm. BOS was Aurikel’s Lady be Good, a well balanced bitch and another good example of the breed,
but lacked the ring presence of the BIS dog.
My Best Puppy went to Glenquin’s Plenty of Charm, a five month old wheaten dog.
Although he is very young, I considered he showed well and had the potential to do well in the future and deserved his award today.

I enjoyed my trip to Denmark very much, had lots of good dogs to go over and the hospitality was superb.
