'I would like to thank the committee for the invite to judge their open show in Hasmark Strand. I would also like to thank the exhibitors who entered under me and who gave me the opportunity to go over their dogs - it was an honour.
The set up of the show and organisation of it made the whole day a good one for both humans and Cairn Terriers, even in 30 degree heat everyone coped very well.
Overall I was pleased with my entry - it was a true cross section of the breed. I was delighted to have a couple of new exhibitors under me as this is how the breed will grow. I hope they continue to show. Open shows are a fantastic environment for beginners to get to understand how shows run and also pick up some tips on how to present their dogs and how to handle them.
On the day it was exceptionally hot but I think that all of the dogs showed very well in the conditions.
Overall the quality of the cairns was of a good level - there were a few with questionable mouths and some need to improve in movement. Presentation was good to see - with some dogs having exceptionally thick coats coming through which was being managed well by their owner. Size wise the majority fitted into the breed standard - I would like some of them to have been a little lighter as this can affect their movement.
My Best Male and Best Bitch both caught my eye as they entered the ring. Both exceptionally presented and had a wonderful Cairn Terrier Attitude - I am confident they will both do well in the future.'
