Dommerrapport
Although I have never shown a Cairn I have owned and lived with the breed and for the last 25 years or so have closely followed the Cairn in the show ring both in the UK and Ireland. I was therefore most happy to be asked to judge this very nice entry.
In general I was impressed by the depth of quality I found, my main winners should do well in any company. Temperaments without exception were excellent. Apart from a couple being a shade overweight the remainder were in good hard condition. Bites were overall very good with nice large teeth and correct scissor bites. Some coats were ëon the blowí but the very harsh winter conditions we had all endured no doubt are responsible.
I value well placed shoulders and all my main winners excelled in this feature and this showed in good front extension on the move. Again all my main winners were well ribbed and had good hind angulation. One of my toughest decisions was in the Champion Bitch class. The first two placed I rate very highly. Both were lovely to handle with the beautiful heads and expressions, had the best of well laid shoulders, correct length of back and strong well angulated quarters that made them both a joy to watch on the move. My winner was carrying a lot of coat that from a distance disguised her lovely make and shape. In the males my best dog also was a pleasure to handle, again with a beautiful head and expression. His body properties were similar to my best bitch and I think they made a good pair. The bitch just put that bit more into her movement and showing and came out on top.
On the negative side I found a few weak heads, lacking strength of scull and were very short from stop to occiput. This produced a strange and untypical expression. A few eyes were larger than I liked. With this size of entry I encountered a few upright shoulders and this usually went hand in hand with poor hind angulation. That said I think the breed is in good heart.
